Judy Chicago made "Mary Queen of Scots" and right away, I'm drawn to the radiating lines in soft pinks, yellows, and blues. I can almost imagine Judy Chicago in her studio, carefully building up each color, one layer at a time, shifting and refining until it glows with such an intense presence. I sympathize with her methodical approach. I'll bet she was thinking about light and energy and womanhood. The way the colors blend reminds me of early sunsets and soft sunrises, and the rippling lines feel like breath, expanding and contracting. These colors, this radiating composition – it speaks to the legacy of artists like Hilma af Klint. They are all in dialogue, aren't they? Painting is like that; it's a conversation across time. I feel such kinship with Judy Chicago. Artists teach each other to see.
