Biography
Bahia Shehab is a Lebanese artist born in Beirut in 1977. Known for her innovative and often politically charged work, she explores themes of language, identity, and freedom of expression. Shehab is particularly recognised for her unique visual alphabet, which she created by reinterpreting Arabic letters into abstract geometric shapes. This innovative approach to Arabic calligraphy allows her to deconstruct and reconstruct the written form, highlighting its visual power and challenging conventional perceptions of the language. Her bold and impactful artworks, often seen in public spaces, engage viewers in critical dialogue about social and political issues.
