Peter Alexander made this ‘Cloud Box’ out of cast resin, and it's really something. You can tell that artmaking is a process, because the color palette is so muted. It’s not like he’s trying to make a realistic cloud; it’s more about capturing a feeling. The material itself is super interesting. It's solid, but it looks like it could melt away at any moment, like a solidified daydream. The surface is so smooth and reflective, you could almost dive right in. What strikes me most is the way the light plays inside. It reminds me of those California light and space artists like Larry Bell, who were also playing with transparency and perception. Ultimately, the piece asks us to think about art as an ongoing conversation, and one that doesn't always have easy answers, which is really great.
