Peter Alexander’s sculpture, Hunter, presents us with a solid cube of translucent yellow resin. Its form is deceptively simple, yet it captivates through its luminous presence. The cube, a geometric form, is a nod to minimalist aesthetics; yet, the translucent nature of the resin introduces an element of perceptual play. Light interacts with the piece, casting subtle shadows and internal reflections that animate the form. The interplay between the rigidity of the cube and the fluid quality of light invites contemplation on the relationship between form and perception. Consider how the work destabilizes established meanings of sculpture, traditionally associated with weight and solidity. Here, the cube seems to hover between presence and absence, challenging our understanding of space and materiality. The work functions as a sign within a structuralist framework, not merely representing an object but embodying a set of ideas about light, space, and the mutable nature of reality.
