"Pop Object" is a work by Marko Pogacnik, an artist who grew up in post-war Slovenia during a period of political and social change, influenced by modernism and a growing sense of cultural identity. This piece invites a dialogue between the concrete and the ethereal. Pogacnik uses the rigid form of the cube, a symbol of modernity and industrialization, and softens it with a gentle, almost pastel blue. The color choice is reminiscent of the sky and water, evoking the feeling of the sublime in nature. The rough texture and visible layering of materials speak to a process of building and uncovering, much like the geological formations of the earth. The object invites us to consider our relationship with the built environment and the natural world. It suggests a world where the boundaries between the artificial and the organic are blurred. It also carries a profound sense of place, asking us to consider how our identities are shaped by our environment.
