Vilhelm Lundstrom drew this standing nude in charcoal, and like all drawings it's about something very particular: a way of seeing. Look at how Lundstrom uses just a few lines to suggest the volume of the figure, creating space on the page. He's playing with the push and pull of line. See how the heavy shading behind the figure creates a sense of depth, pushing the nude forward? Then, the simple line that defines her thigh, how it curves so confidently, holding both the front and the back of her leg in one stroke. That knee is just an almost comical circle. Lundstrom reminds me of Leger. There's a similar interest in reduction and form. This piece revels in the essentials, an open, generous conversation about seeing, about the act of making, rather than any single statement.
