Johann David Passavant (1787-1861) was a German art historian and collector. He was a pioneer in the field of art history and was known for his extensive research into the lives and works of artists. He published several important works, including "Le Peintre-graveur" which is considered a foundational text in printmaking history. Passavant's own artwork focused primarily on landscapes and portraits, with his style being characterized by detailed rendering and realistic depictions.
