Rose Freymuth-Frazier made this painting, Boundless, using a brushy technique, its like the paint is trying to run away from itself. Look at how she has created this atmosphere through these moody greens and oranges, the sky almost seems to weep down into the landscape below. I find myself focusing on the details in the foreground, the muddy puddles, the tufts of grass, as if my eyes are adjusting to the gloom. It feels as if I'm on the threshold of something, that sun disappearing or emerging. Its an uncanny place, an in-between moment, there is a real sense of ambiguity here that brings to mind Gerhard Richter's landscapes. I enjoy the way this work embraces that lack of certainty.
