Kaws made this print, Urge #1, sometime around now, and it's all about the energy of line, and how that builds a visual experience. Look at the way the colors push and pull against each other – that warm red, those mauves, they aren’t just sitting still. The texture comes alive with the hatching, like little vibrating marks, that makes the forms pop. It’s almost like the surface is breathing, which is what I think happens when colour and line combine in an image. Consider the gloved hands, each with that crossed out motif. This isn’t just about flat shapes; it’s about the depth Kaws creates, inviting you to touch, to feel the surface. This reminds me of Magritte, somehow, a really graphic sense of surface. It's a conversation across time.
