Editor: Here we have Jacques Callot's tiny etching, "Deposition of the Garments of the Virgin." It’s so small! The detail is incredible. What’s striking to me is the repetition of line and form. How would you interpret this work? Curator: Considering Callot's time, this piece prompts us to think about the economics of printmaking. The very act of reproducing images made them accessible, commodities even. How does the print’s small scale affect its value as both an art object and a devotional tool? Editor: So, its worth isn’t just about the image, but the material and how it was made available? Curator: Precisely. And how the mass production affects individual experience. Editor: I never thought about religious art in terms of production before.
