Friedensreich Hundertwasser made this print, Regentag on Waves of Love, and right away I'm drawn to the way he builds up the image with these very distinct, almost cartoonish shapes. The colors are bold, and the lines are so clear, it feels like looking at a map of a dream. I love the water, how he's made it out of all these little strokes. It's almost like each stroke is a tiny wave, and together they make this whole ocean. You can almost feel the water moving, can’t you? It’s interesting how the top part of the print has all those dots that fade into each other, so different from those definite waves at the bottom. Hundertwasser makes me think of Paul Klee, both of them using color and simple forms to create these complex worlds. This print makes me think about how art is really just a bunch of conversations, artists talking to each other across time.
