Friedensreich Hundertwasser made this as "368A Eyebalance number five", and he uses a gorgeous colour palette. He seems to really enjoy exploring how colours interact and create a sense of depth and movement. It's like watching a playful dance between intention and chance. What strikes me most is the texture and the way the colours seem to build on top of each other. You can see the physical process of layering, almost like the painting grew organically over time. The bold red line that cuts across the composition is quite striking, it divides and unites the composition, creating tension and balance. Hundertwasser reminds me a little of Gustav Klimt. Both artists embrace ornamentation and have a strong decorative sense. Like all the best artists, Hundertwasser invites us to see the world in a new way, and to embrace the beauty of imperfection and the power of individual expression.
