Alfred Freddy Krupa made this graphite drawing, Bobi Poses, on paper, and what I see right away is how the marks are like a kind of shorthand, building up the form through a network of lines. It's almost like he's feeling his way around Bobi’s shape. Up close, you can really see the layering, how he uses the direction and density of the lines to suggest form and shadow. Take a look at the eye, how it's rendered with this dense cluster of marks, giving it a real sense of depth and focus. You can almost feel Bobi looking back at you. There is a rawness, an immediacy to the drawing that reminds me of Picasso's quick sketches, or maybe even some of the expressionistic animal drawings of Franz Marc. It is a reminder that art is not just about perfection, but about capturing a moment, a feeling, an idea.
