Adolphe Thalasso made this postcard to Philip Zilcken in Paris, sometime in the early 20th century. I see a pale background with handwriting on it, and there are some stamps in the top right corner. It’s like a little world, isn't it? I imagine Thalasso sitting at a desk, pen in hand, carefully forming each letter. What thoughts crossed his mind as he penned his message to Zilcken? There's an elegance to the cursive, but also a directness, like he's sharing a secret. And those stamps! Each a tiny artwork in itself, adding layers of meaning and history to the card. Looking at this postcard I am reminded that art is also about communication, connection, and exchange. This simple gesture of sending a postcard becomes a powerful act of sharing ideas and experiences across distances. Each stroke of the pen, each carefully chosen word, tells a story, inviting us to reflect on the relationships that shape our lives and our art.
