This book of photographs called “Bommen” was assembled by an anonymous artist. It's hard to know what was going through this anonymous artist’s head when they put this together, this collection of black and white photographs of bombs. Maybe they were trying to make sense of something huge, something terrifying, by getting up close, turning it into a tangible object that could be examined. I look at the images and I'm reminded that art often emerges out of necessity. It's about trying to capture and communicate something that words just can’t quite reach. You can see it in the crisp, clear tones of the photos, the way the artist has framed the subject, both ordinary and horrifying. Ultimately this album feels like it’s part of a much larger conversation about art's role in bearing witness, speaking truth, and sparking dialogue across time and cultures.
