These photographs of Zagreb are pasted into an album, their creation is an act of curation in itself. It makes me think about painting, where you're always making decisions, editing, and arranging elements on a surface. There's a real sense of place, a personal geography being constructed here. Look at the texture of the photographs themselves, the way they're slightly grainy and worn. Then consider how the anonymous photographer frames their subjects, sometimes focusing on grand vistas, other times on intimate details like a couple walking along a path. It feels almost like a conversation between memory and observation. This approach reminds me of Gerhard Richter's "Atlas," where he collected photographs and newspaper clippings to create a vast archive of images. It's like both artists are saying that the world is too complex to capture in a single image. Instead, they offer us a collection of fragments, inviting us to piece them together and find our own meaning.
