Here is a series of silver gelatin prints by an anonymous artist that capture village life. I can imagine the artist seeing the world through the lens of their camera. Like a painter mixing colors on a palette, the photographer frames a shot, adjusting light and shadow to compose an image. It must have been a challenge to capture images in the moment, waiting for the perfect alignment of shapes and faces. The light, the atmosphere, the expressions. The artist is in conversation with so many others who have attempted to represent the world through images. And in turn, they will inspire future image makers, each building on the work of those who came before, experimenting with new techniques and technologies to capture the fleeting nature of life. There is always ambiguity. There are so many ways to interpret an image.
