Here's a picture by Alfred Stieglitz, who was lucky enough to be married to Georgia O'Keeffe. Looking at this photograph, I wonder if I can feel what it felt like to be Georgia, who had such a long life full of art and nature, and was a total babe in her prime. In this black and white photograph, Georgia's looking to the side; I get a sense of a very private and internal person. But, what was it like to be her, posing for her man, a famous photographer, who sees her as a work of art in her own right? I think about how artists are in an ongoing conversation, exchanging ideas and inspiring each other across time. This image encapsulates painting as a form of embodied expression, embracing ambiguity, and allowing for multiple interpretations and meanings. It's almost like two famous painters merged into one.
