Alfred Stieglitz made this photograph of Georgia O'Keeffe, his wife, using light and shadow to reveal her inner self. Look at O’Keeffe’s gaze; it’s so direct, so unwavering. I wonder what it was like to be on the other side of that intensity. You can feel the push and pull of their relationship, the admiration, the intimacy, but also the inherent power dynamics. As an artist, it’s always fascinating to see how one creative person sees another. Stieglitz has captured O’Keeffe as both muse and maker. It reminds me that artists are constantly in conversation with each other, borrowing, stealing, and transforming ideas across time. And maybe, just maybe, a little bit of that creative energy rubs off on us too.
