Alfred Stieglitz captured this image of Georgia O’Keeffe with his camera. The way he framed her face, it’s like he’s trying to understand something deep within her, and maybe something about himself too. I bet they had long talks about what it meant to be an artist, a woman artist, at that time. Stieglitz was trying to capture her essence, her strength. Her gaze is steady, almost defiant. And yet, I see a vulnerability there too. It reminds me of those intense portrait sessions I have with myself in the mirror before starting a painting. Searching, questioning, trying to understand the subject from the inside out. Stieglitz probably knew that art is not just about what you see, but about feeling, about being present, about that quiet conversation between the artist and the subject. The image feels like a testament to their bond, and a reminder of the endless possibilities of art.
