URBAN SCREENS Exp43 2017

Alfio Giuffrida's "URBAN SCREENS Exp43" presents us with a pale rose and inky blue world, where a kind of architectural skeleton holds everyday objects. I can imagine Giuffrida in the studio, carefully laying out these shapes as if arranging characters on a stage. What stories do these objects tell when they're placed together like this? The spoon, the shower head, the desk... each a fragment of our daily lives. It’s like he’s x-raying the hidden structures of our domestic spaces, showing how we organize our lives through objects. I can see how this work relates to the wider conversation between artists who are always trying to get under the surface and find the underlying order in the world. It's almost like he's saying: Look closer, there's more here than meets the eye. And that’s the conversation that keeps painting alive, right?
