Alfio Giuffrida made this painting, Eingangstore Exp7, layering shapes and colors with such care that each element feels both precise and wonderfully off-kilter. It’s artmaking as a balancing act, a conversation between intention and chance. The texture is smooth, almost cool to the touch, but then you notice the little imperfections, like the slight pooling of paint around the edges of the shapes. Look at the yellow rectangle at the bottom left, it’s like a flattened bulb. Notice how the yellow of the bulb and the red of the 'tree' pop against the lilac background, creating this visual tension that vibrates across the surface. The red, tree-like structure is so intriguing. Are they meant to be read as trees or something else, something more abstract? This piece reminds me of the work of Forrest Bess, who used abstract shapes to create his own symbolic language. Giuffrida's work, like Bess', invites us into a world where meaning isn't fixed but flows, changes, and surprises us.
