Alfio Giuffrida's *TORE Exp7* presents a world of flat shapes and curious objects rendered in acrylic. The canvas has been mapped out in a grid of blues and greens, like some kind of portal, or maybe an architect's fever dream. I imagine Giuffrida, brush in hand, carefully applying each block of color, building up this strange space, item by item. Look at those floating domestic objects! What are they doing here? Are they memories, or symbols, or just the contents of a very organized kitchen? I bet Giuffrida was smiling to himself when he included that coffee cup there! The colors are so playful, yet the composition is so precise. It reminds me of the work of Giorgio Morandi, but with a surrealist twist. It's like Giuffrida is inviting us to rearrange the world according to our own logic, and what's more human than that? Painting allows us to explore these kinds of questions, without ever having to arrive at a single, definitive answer.
