Adja Yunkers made this image, Green Atelier, using aquatint and engraving, and it’s all about process, isn't it? It makes me think about the messy, evolving life of making art. I see figures kind of embedded in this sea of green, like they’re emerging from the depths or maybe dissolving back into them. It feels like a space of creation, maybe a studio, but also a mental space where ideas are being worked out, tried on, and discarded. Those engraved lines are so sure, so confident. I can imagine Yunkers digging into the plate, making decisive marks. There’s a tension between the controlled lines and the unpredictable washes of the aquatint. It’s almost like he's wrestling with the image, trying to pin it down, but also letting it breathe and shift. It's like one of those conversations artists have with each other all the time, a kind of visual call and response! It gives me a feeling of freedom, of endless possibilities.
