Hendrik Krock created this study of the left half of Raphael’s “Disputa” using red chalk. Krock, who lived from 1671 to 1738, found himself working in a society still deeply influenced by the power of the church and classical ideals. Krock's choice to reproduce a section of Raphael’s fresco speaks volumes about the artistic values of his time. Raphael’s work, laden with religious and philosophical debate, mirrors a society grappling with its spiritual and intellectual identity.
