This fashion plate comes from a 1928 issue of *Art - Goût - Beauté*, a magazine featuring the latest in feminine elegance. What strikes me is the overall coolness of the palette, a sort of glacial, minty green. The flapper figure is defined by a pattern of small, iterative markings. The artist doesn’t quite give us a body, but rather an impression of a body through the accumulation of lines and dots. Think about the sheer labor of creating such an image, painstakingly building up these textures bit by bit. Each tiny mark, a conscious decision. Look closely at the dress, its cascade of soft green hues, and then notice how it’s offset by the sharp angles of the text. It makes me think of Sonia Delaunay, how she blurred the lines between art, fashion, and design. Ultimately, this isn’t just an image of a dress; it’s a meditation on the act of seeing, making, and dreaming.
