Since the mid-1960s, Haacke has produced controversial, unflinchingly political works exposing systems of power and influence. Many of these have focused on the unethical investment or labour practices of multinational corporations, but he has also examined the power relations within the art world itself. A Breed Apart targets the former car manufacturer British Leyland. The contrasts between the brutal 'real' world and the glamourised realm of advertising draw out the double standards of British Leyland's involvement with the South African apartheid regime. Gallery label, October 2000
