This rectangular cardboard glove box, covered in beige paper, was designed by Fa. Wisbrun & Liffmann (A.Funke & Zoon). The structure of the box is strikingly simple, its clean lines and right angles emphasize its geometric form. The beige paper adds a tactile dimension, the texture suggesting a subtle yet inviting surface. A close look reveals two labels: the one to the left with a blue rectangular border and bold typography contrasts with the circular impression and delicate cursive writing of the one to the right. These subtle variations in design serve to emphasize their symbolic role as signifiers of identity and commerce. The box itself embodies a semiotic system, the typography and design elements signifying luxury, quality and brand identity. Yet, the box is now empty, stripped of its original function, it challenges fixed notions of value and utility. This shift transforms the object into a site for contemplation on themes of consumerism, branding, and the nature of material culture.
