Dragan Ilić Di Vogo painted 'Metamorphosis' with oils to give us this dreamy portrait. The colors are so vibrant; pinks, blues, and reds that blend and swirl, which makes the process of art-making feel so alive. I’m really drawn to the texture of the paint, in the lower third of the canvas it’s applied so thickly. You can almost feel the artist working, layering colors, pushing and pulling the medium. It makes you wonder about the emotional state of the artist, this physical engagement with the paint. The butterfly, which sits on the left of the girl's face, feels very deliberate, the tiny dots perfectly placed. Di Vogo's butterfly reminds me of Odilon Redon. Like Redon, Di Vogo embraces the strange and the fantastical. 'Metamorphosis' leaves you with so many questions, and maybe that’s the point. Art isn't about answers, it’s about the journey of seeing and feeling.
