These four photographs of friends, snapped by Carolina Onnen, back in June 1911, feel like a slice of a long-lost summer. I'm drawn to the casual, unposed quality of these images. You can almost hear the laughter and chatter of friends enjoying their time together. There’s a softness to the sepia tone that gives everything a hazy, nostalgic feel, like a memory half-forgotten. What was it like for Carolina to capture these moments? Did she realize she was creating a little time capsule? I imagine she was just trying to hold on to the joy of that summer, to the connections she shared with her friends. And isn't that what we all try to do, in our own way? Photography, like painting, is a conversation with the world. It’s about seeing, feeling, and trying to capture something that resonates within us. Carolina's photos are a reminder that art can be found in the everyday, in the simple act of bearing witness to the beauty and connection all around us.
