Rose Freymuth-Frazier’s painting presents an evening scene rendered in deep greens, browns, and fiery oranges. You can almost feel the act of painting itself, shifting and emerging through layers and intuitive touches. I sympathize with the artist, imagining her standing there, brush in hand, trying to capture the fleeting light. What was she thinking when she made it? The paint is applied in thin, translucent washes, allowing the light to glow from within. That single stroke of orange, slashed across the horizon, is everything. It communicates the feeling of a world on fire, but also a sense of hope. It might be read as a call back to the Hudson River School painters, but with a contemporary sensibility. Artists are in an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time. Painting embraces ambiguity, and this piece lets us interpret freely, finding new meanings with each viewing.
