Here's your audio guide script: This "Child's Head with Open Mouth" by Pierre Peeters, uses etched lines, like dark scribbles, to capture a kid yelling. What was it yelling about? Think about Peeters, carefully scratching these tiny lines into a copper plate, rocking the tool, back and forth, watching the image slowly emerge. The little mouth is the star, the whole face twisting in what might be a tantrum, or maybe just singing. It reminds me of Goya, or even some of those old master drawings, but with a bit more of an everyday feel. There is a sense of immediacy to it, like it was done from life. There’s a history of artists looking at each other, isn’t there? Like they’re all in this big, echoey room, shouting ideas back and forth across time. And here we are, still listening, still trying to figure out what they're all yelling about!
