Ronnie Landfield's November is made up of hatched lines, like someone cross-hatching with a pastel crayon. I imagine Ronnie making this, going to a zone and then just letting the hand do its thing. There's a kind of hypnotic, meditative state where the artist gets out of the way and the painting almost makes itself. The colours, those oranges, reds, blues—they're so autumnal, that it's almost like he’s drawing a feeling, you know? It's not really a picture of autumn, more like the vibe of late fall, when the leaves have turned and there's a certain crispness in the air. Landfield was a colour field painter, who was always into big emotions, and this kind of all-over composition, is like, everything is equally important, everywhere. So, like all art, it's about something simple, but more than it seems.
