Paul Klee made this lovely painting called 'Signs In Yellow', and you can see these black hieroglyphic signs floating over a grid of yellow and tan color. I can imagine Klee painting it, maybe starting with a light wash of color, letting it dry, and then adding these dark, quirky marks on top. Look at that 'T' shape down there, off-center. What's that about? It makes me think of a kid learning to write, making simple shapes and letters on a page. The paint is thin, almost like watercolor, which gives it a light, airy feel. Klee was such a playful artist; he wasn't afraid to mix things up, you know? He was really interested in how simple shapes and lines could communicate feeling and create this world of visual poetry. I like to think of artists as being in conversation with each other, across time. Klee surely looked at a lot of art, and talked to other artists, and then he made this. It reminds me of the work of other artists interested in signs and symbols, like Joan Miró. What do you think?
