Somewhere, Maurizio Cattelan made this stuffed horse that's stuck in a wall. It’s quite a visual trick! I mean, we know it's not real, right? But our brains can’t help but try to make sense of it. It’s like when you’re painting and you put down a color – any color – and suddenly the painting has a problem to solve. Here, the problem is this horse. It's brown, clearly not alive, and yet, there it is, defying gravity. The texture of the horse itself – that fake fur – is so different from the smooth, cold wall. You can almost feel the absurdity of it all. It's like a cartoon, a joke, but it's also a bit disturbing, like something out of a dream. This reminds me of some of Erwin Wurm’s sculptures, where he makes these absurd interventions into reality. Both artists invite us to question our assumptions about what art can be, and what the world should look like. It's funny, but also makes you think!
