Gene Davis made "End Stripes," with what looks like thin strokes of acrylic on canvas. I can imagine him, brush in hand, carefully placing each stripe like a note in a musical score. I'm interested in the way those vertical lines create a sense of rhythm, like a visual pulse. It's like he's saying, "Hey, let's explore what happens when colors meet, when they vibrate against each other." What was he thinking? Was he thinking about Sol LeWitt? Agnes Martin? I can see how "End Stripes" relates to Davis's broader exploration of color and form. He's inviting us to see and feel the subtle energy of color, pushing the limits of what a simple stripe can do. Painting is a conversation, a dialogue between artists across time. It embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
