This group portrait of George Hendrik Breitner and others at dinner was taken by an anonymous photographer. I think of the anonymous photographer lurking in the corner, trying not to interrupt. What was it like to be there? Look at those faces, trying to enjoy themselves. The atmosphere is so different now. The light is different, our clothes are different, everything moves so fast. But I know there were still moments, you know? There’s something very moving about seeing people gathered, sharing a meal, something deeply human. A shared experience, preserved in a moment. Like a memory emerging in shades of grey. It reminds me that we're all connected in this ongoing conversation across time. We are all people, we all have meals, and hopefully enjoy ourselves.
