Frans Lazarom made this drawing of a family walking through a hallway with ink. The artist has used a lot of little lines to build up the image, a bit like a woodcut. You can almost hear the scratch of the pen on the page. A family is moving forward and they all seem so happy, eager almost. There's a lot of focus on the gestures of the figures. Look at the children, and how they swing their arms. The dad seems to be pulling his wife along. This is the kind of detail that brings a scene to life! The artist has captured a sense of the everyday, the kind of moments that are small but full of feeling. What was Lazarom thinking when he drew this? Was it a scene he saw in his own life, or a moment he imagined? I wonder if he was thinking about earlier artists like Daumier, who showed the lives of normal people? These drawings are part of an ongoing conversation, stretching back through time.
