This artwork called Fondau, by Victor Vasarely is like a puzzle – each line, each form perfectly placed with a clear sense of intention. I can imagine Vasarely carefully considering each stripe, almost like weaving color into a visual tapestry. Look at the way the stripes shift direction within the shapes, creating the illusion of depth and movement. It’s as if the forms are both flat and three-dimensional at the same time. The colors too, feel both modern and kind of retro – blue, red, purple, green. It reminds me of the Bauhaus and Op Art movements and how artists explore the interplay between perception and form. What can you see? What can you feel? Ultimately, paintings like this remind me that artists are always in conversation with one another across time, building upon and reinventing ideas. What mark will you make?
