This chair, upholstered with batik parchment in a red, white, and black diamond pattern, was crafted by Carel Adolph Lion Cachet. Note the diamond motif, an ancient symbol found across cultures and epochs. In many traditions, the diamond represents the eye of God and spiritual insight. When we explore the subconscious, we find that geometric shapes resonate with the human mind, invoking stability and order. However, the appearance of the diamond motif has been anything but stable. In antiquity, we see it emerge in textile patterns and mosaics, often associated with power and divinity. Over time, its use became more democratized, appearing in everyday objects. The chair here echoes the same psychological impact, yet in a completely new context: the domestic sphere.
