J.Th. Plomp made this forest scene near Lage Vuursche with photography. The artist is dealing with depth and focus, and what it means to really "see." Imagine being there, in the forest, trying to capture the essence of that moment. What are you *actually* seeing when you focus? What do you choose to leave out? I think Plomp is interested in these questions. It's an everyday scene, but the contrast and composition add a surreal quality. It reminds me of some of the Hudson River School paintings. And that’s the funny thing about art, right? Every artist is always in conversation with others who came before. They make art using new tools but asking the same old questions.
