This bracelet was made with silver and turquoise by a Navajo artist. It's this beautiful thing made out of metal that looks like it’s been through a lot, seen a lot. I like to think about the person who made this, and the touch of the hand. The way you slowly, carefully, press into the metal to make those tiny repetitive marks. It's a cool way to think about something that's repeated, like a gesture, and the commitment and focus that it takes. It makes me think of Agnes Martin! The way that stone, that almost electric-blue turquoise, sits in the middle of the two bands of silver; it almost makes the silver shimmer. And then, the leaves etched into the metal on either side of the turquoise! It’s a beautiful composition, somehow both minimal and abundant. I imagine this artist, and people from all different eras and communities, are in constant conversation with one another.
