This is an undated necklace by Annie Mudwater, made with silver and turquoise. Isn’t it beautiful? I love the way that each small silver sphere of the chain shimmers and catches light, connecting little pools of blue-green turquoise. I can picture Annie Mudwater carefully placing each stone, seeing how the shapes speak to each other, balancing colour and form with incredible care. It reminds me a little of Hilma af Klint, or Agnes Martin: this beautiful, simple geometry that's also bursting with meaning. Look how those little turquoise teardrops hang like wishes all the way around the curve of the necklace. The weight of the metal, the coolness of the stones. You can feel the care that went into making it. It makes me think of all of the ways that we adorn ourselves, to both protect and express. Jewelry is a form of art that stays in constant motion, shifting and sparkling. Like the best artworks, this necklace is deeply intimate, full of dreams.
