Curatorial notes

Editor: This is an initial, decorated "E", by an anonymous artist. It's all flourishing vines and flowers, kind of bursting out of the letterform. What do you see in this small but mighty piece? Curator: I love how the artist has transformed a simple letter into a miniature garden! It speaks to the medieval tradition of illuminated manuscripts, where every page was a work of art, inviting contemplation and awe. I wonder, what letter would you choose to decorate? Editor: Oh, maybe a "W," to wrap around a whimsical scene. It’s amazing how much life they packed into such a tiny space! Curator: Absolutely! It reminds us that beauty can be found in the smallest details, waiting for us to discover it.
