Biography
Matthias Zündt was a German engraver and painter, active between the 16th and 17th centuries. His work is mainly known for its detail and focus on historical figures, often rendered in a realistic style with a notable use of shading and light. His prints, such as the portraits of Charles IX of France and Jean Parisot de Valette, often depict subjects in lavish attire and elaborate settings, with a focus on capturing the historical grandeur of his subjects. Zündt's engravings provide valuable insight into the fashion, weaponry and culture of his time, and remain important sources for historical study.
