Editor: This image, "Untitled (view of home)" by Harry Annas, held at the Harvard Art Museums, has this ghostly quality because it looks like a negative. The house is centered, almost confrontational. What statements do you think the artist is making? Curator: The negative image, for me, speaks powerfully to the hidden narratives of homeownership, particularly within marginalized communities. What histories are made visible or, conversely, obscured by this choice of presentation? What biases or prejudices exist regarding who has access to the ideal of homeownership? Editor: That's a perspective I hadn't considered. It's more than just a picture of a house; it's a commentary. Curator: Exactly. The photograph pushes us to contemplate the societal structures that shape our understanding and lived experience of "home."
