This photograph of a screen and sculpture was taken by Elsa Silberstein, but we don't know exactly when. The photograph is small, almost like a snapshot, capturing a moment in time, a way of seeing. I find myself drawn to the textures. The surface of the photograph itself seems to have a grain, a kind of hum that sits beneath the image, contrasting with the smooth surfaces of the objects within the frame. Look at the detail on the screen, the way the light catches the raised areas. It's a subtle dance of light and shadow, a reminder that even in a monochrome image, there's a whole world of color waiting to be imagined. This reminds me of work by artists like Hannah Höch. Both artists use the medium of collage and photography to create intimate portraits, or in this case, interior scenes which invite us to consider the relationship between interior and exterior space. Ultimately, it's the open-ended nature of art, which allows space for ambiguity.
