Alfred Freddy Krupa made this small imaginary landscape with mixed media, on what looks like a repurposed train ticket. It’s so tiny! I love the way the surface is built up with textured white paint to evoke the water and sky, on top of which he’s drawn these energetic lines suggesting birds, trees, and reflections. It's a reminder that artmaking can be about finding possibilities in the everyday. There’s something about the quick, almost scribbled lines that makes it feel immediate and fresh. I find myself drawn to the birds, or whatever’s going on up there in the sky! Their forms are loose and gestural, kind of like abstract shapes that become birds in our minds. It reminds me of Twombly’s playful approach to mark-making, and how he could suggest so much with so little. It’s like art is just this ongoing conversation.
