Joan Miró made "Vuelo de pájaros" with paint, of course, but it’s like he’s painting feelings, not things. It’s all about how he puts down the marks; playful, like a dance. The colours are like emotions themselves, not trying to look real. And those shapes, the swooping green, that splodgy red...they feel so good, right? Like the world is a playground. I love the little details, how the paint seems slapped on, the way the colours vibrate. It reminds me of my own process, messing around in the studio, not knowing exactly what I'm doing until suddenly, there it is. That little blue dot on the left looks like a mistake but holds the whole painting together. Miró reminds me of Klee in the way he makes a whole language out of simple shapes. It's like he is telling us it’s okay to have fun and that art doesn’t have to be so serious.
