Joan Miró made "Vuelo de pájaros" with paint, and maybe a brush, as part of his ongoing conversation with himself, with the canvas, with the world. You know, looking at his shapes and colours, I’m reminded how paintings can be places of inquiry for both the artist and us, the viewers. Imagine Miró moving around the canvas, probably on the floor, letting his intuition guide him; it is evident he applied the paint thinly, allowing the yellow ground to breathe around the floating figures and shapes. That red circle surrounded by black, reminds me of a strange kind of sun, or maybe it's a portal? The gestural lines dance across the surface like notes in a musical score. Artists like Miró and Klee were not afraid to embrace ambiguity and uncertainty, creating artwork which invites us to let go of fixed meanings. And in doing so, artists inspire our creativity.
