This painting, "Bubble bubble toil and trouble" was made by Camilla d'Errico sometime in the 20th century. I imagine d’Errico starting with washes of translucent colour, building up the layers to create a dream-like vision. I wonder if she felt like she was conjuring something otherworldly, maybe with the help of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Those rainbow antlers are like colorful signals, almost as if she's inviting us into an enchanted dimension. The brushstrokes are so delicate and precise, they seem to vibrate with an inner light. It makes me think of other painters who explore the boundaries of the imagination, like Remedios Varo or Leonora Carrington. Painting is a kind of alchemy, isn’t it? We see that the artist is stirring the pot of the unconscious. With every layer, every brushstroke, she invites us to dive in and explore the depths of our own imagination.
